KidsOnBooks is a place for kids of all ages to go to find books of interest to them. It’s also a place where kids can write reviews of books they’ve enjoyed, or didn’t enjoy, and share those reviews with other kids.
My name is Clay Levy and I’m 11 years old. I live in Scottsdale, Arizona and I am in the sixth grade. This past summer, I was reading a review of a book on another website and I thought, “Wow, wouldn’t it be cool to have a website like this just for kids where they could check out books that other kids have read and write reviews of their own?” My brother Kenny, who is ten years old, wanted to help me with the project. We talked about it and decided that in addition to having a website to help encourage kids to read and write about books, we would also hold book drives to collect and donate books to school libraries and children’s hospitals. That part of the website is called Ken’s Corner.
That’s the story of how KidsOnBooks got started!
We’re on a mission to get kids reading and writing about it!
Kenny and I spent this past summer reading books and writing reviews. Fortunately, our cousin, Jared, knows all about building websites and he’s helped us put this whole thing together. But there’s one problem. We want KidsOnBooks to be able to offer a huge variety of genres (different types of books) for kids to choose from. That’s where we need your help!
The more kids who get involved, the larger variety of reviews we’ll have to offer. For example, I am kind of addicted to reading biographies, especially sports biographies. I love reading about different athletes and their stats. So, as you’ll see, we have lots of non-fiction biography reviews. Someone else may be totally into science fiction or fantasy books. So their reviews will help build the selections in those areas.
Kenny and I hope that KidsOnBooks will help you find a great book to read and that you’ll write a review on it to share with other kids. We hope you have fun on the website and we hope that you come back often to see what book reviews have been added. Also, don’t forget to check out Ken’s Corner to find out when and where our next book drive is going to be held, so you can be a part of getting books into the hands of kids who might have trouble getting some!
